Destiny 2’s Season Of The Haunted Brings Back The Leviathan, Plus Solar 3.0

No more speculation, after a last minute leakBungie has moved the official reveal timing and has finally spilled the beans on Destiny 2 Season 17, another experiment in near-total secrecy ahead of launch.

Today, along with a new trailer, Bungie finally revealed its real name, Season of the Haunted, which has been leaked in advance in some circles, but no one knew if it was legit or not. It was!

So why hide that name? Well it could be that What’s? haunted, which is Calus’ Leviathan megaship, which was sunset when the Pyramids arrived and Beyond Light struck, but has now returned this season in a “corrupt” form to communicate with the sleeping pyramid on the moon. Calus has been working on some sort of plan to serve the darkness, possibly to try to become a disciple like Rhulk, and guess what? We have to stop him.

And we will do this using solar 3.0, the new subclass that was also remained hidden until this point, even though some pretty steep clues pointed in that direction (for once, one of my predictions came true).

We have a small amount of information about the seasonal content launching in a few hours. The list:

Story: Leviathan is corrupted, overtaken by darkness. We’re going back through old zones like the Dogs/Throne rooms that have now been transformed. The story revolves around Crow, Zavala and Caiatl confronting ancient “Nightmare” demons that haunt them, as Eris was being chased by her dead fireteam. The shots indicate that Crow faces Uldren, Caiatl faces Ghaul, and Zavala may have to face his late former love, or I don’t recognize her. I have to confirm this, but the Leviathan now seems to be a real freeroam space, at least the parts that have been brought back for this season (and possibly permanently).

Nightmare containment: We are back fighting Nightmares on the Moon. These are not the old Nightmare Hunts, but battles that will take place somewhere in the newly corrupted Leviathan. This activity is free for all players. I’m not sure about the number of players yet, but Bungie has been doing mostly 6-man stuff lately.

break: This is a type of paid seasonal activity where players navigate the Underbelly of the Leviathan to uncover the truth behind Calus’s plan and break through the nightmares he controls. I’m not sure if this could be something similar to Season of the Splicer’s Expunge type missions.

Solar 3.0: No details here other than that we can “light the flame of creativity” with the aspect and fragment system. Many speculated that the new element was kept secret because it was linked to the story, but no confirmation of this yet.

loot: From the press kit, I’ve seen images of moon-themed armor that I assume is the season base set, some evil Ghost Rider-esque armor that’s probably high-level ornaments, and an Eververse solar-powered set like the empty world. have last time. New loot looks pretty badass again and includes a new scout rifle, rocket launchers, glaive and legendary trace rifle. But most urgently, Bungie has brought back four classic Menagerie weapons, Calus MINI Tool, Beloved, Drang, and Austringer, presumably with new perks and an origin feature. There’s also a new scythe for players to wield, but I think that’s a relic weapon for the activity, not actual loot.

Offender: The only exotic Bungie to reveal is one they accidentally revealed a few weeks ago, the return of the Trespasser, Shiro-4’s exotic bow weapon from Destiny 1’s Rise of Iron. This is the Season Pass Exotic that all players will get.

The dungeon: No new information here, other than the “secrets are well hidden.” Given the events of the season, I’d be slightly surprised if it wasn’t on the Leviathan, but technically the dungeon isn’t seasonal content, it’s purchased separately through the deluxe edition of Witch Queen or in a special two-dungeon pack for sale. . So it can really be anywhere. I don’t believe there are any loot or screenshots of the dungeon shown in the press kit.

It doesn’t sound like things like the vaulted raids or Menagerie returning as activities, but it uses some of those old areas, and the fact that the ship is back could open that door down the road.

Even with this last-minute reveal, it’s clear that Bungie is probably keeping a lot a secret about this season. Was all this worth the mystery and hype? I mean, logging in to find Calus’ ship over the moon is quite a bit, but we’ll see how the season plays out from here. I’m definitely excited, based on what I’m hearing here.
