the tradition of Genshin impact is deep and wide. And that’s especially true for the nation of Liyue, the second region of Teyvat for players to explore. During the Voyager’s adventure, we learn that three of the five Yakshas perished in the Great Archon War, and one has disappeared.
That lost Yaksha is Bosacius, who introduced HoYoverse in the Archon Quest and story teaser released on June 2. ciao as the only living Yaksha, but not much is said about his comrades. Genshin impact 2.7 finally delves into the history of the five Yakshas in its final chapter – and works Yelan in her first major role in the story. Here’s everything you need to know about Bosacius and the history of the Yakshas. (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)
Who is Bosacius? † Bosacius was the eldest of the five Yaksha and their leader. He is a four-armed man with an Electro vision, which helped him fight the demons and other dangers during the Archon War. He seemed to have a close, brotherly relationship with his fellow Yaksha. His story teaser shows him discussing a robe with another Yaksha and drawing ink on Xiao’s face. According to Xiao, he was also the first Yaksha. They called him ‘Brother Bosacius’.
They caught up with the last one Genshin impact Archon Quest should already know who Bosacius is. However, fans may have discovered his name through the latest story teaser posted on YouTube before even reaching the final chapter. HoYoverse recently uploaded the story teaser “Only Old Memories Remain” to its official YouTube channel. It shows Bosacius in the depths of the canyon with Yelan’s ancestor, Boyang, trying to get him to remember his name.
In the latest Archon Quest, the Traveler enters the rift with Yelan, Arataki Itto and Kuki Shinobu on an unexpected adventure. This unlikely team encounters Xiao, who was there looking for Bosacius because of a rumor about an “unnamed Yaksha” who appeared there years ago.
Who are the Yakshas? † The five Yakshas were appointed as Adepti Guardians who tasked Rex Lapis (aka Morax or Zhongli) with defending Liyue from creatures manifested by the hatred of the gods of the Archon War. In other words, they were summoned to fight against demons and other dark creatures that sprang from fallen gods.
Adepti (or Illuminated Beasts, it’s kind of unclear) are animal guardians responsible for protecting Liyue. The five Yakshas were known as particularly powerful and dutiful adepts who slaughtered enemies under the command of Rex Lapis, but thereby built up a ‘karmic debt’. Their names were Bosacius, Indarias, Bonanus, Menongias and Alatus. There was also Pervaseas, who was apparently a lower level Yaksha.
Each of the five Yaksha also had a personal name given to them by Rex Lapis. Alatus, also known as Xiao, was the only Yaksha to survive the Archon War.
What happened to the Yakshas? † As mentioned earlier, Yaksha’s “karmic debts” built up for endless killing of enemies. It is never explained what ‘karmic guilt’ really is, but it seems to be some kind of dark energy that consumes the user as he takes lives. Karmic debts also affect those around the Yaksha, which is why Xiao is so reluctant to stay with others.
Indarius, Bonanus, and Menongias died long ago as a result of their karmic guilt. In “The Guardian Adeptia” and the trailer for “Only Old Memories Remain”, it is suggested that Bonanus and Menongias killed each other after going mad. Bosacius, who was not confirmed dead, succumbed to a similar madness that took away his memories. His status was not confirmed until the recent Archon Quest.
His character profile explains that Xiao survived the madness thanks to the sound of a Dihua flute. The trailer of “The Guardian Adepti” implies that the tune came from Venti, the Anemo Archon. Fun fact: it’s also a reason why the Xiao/Venti clutch is a thing.
The fate of Bosacius – You like spoilers, don’t you? If you’re anything like me, you were probably looking for this answer all along, right?
Anyway, Bosacius is dead. Xiao went into the canyon in search of him and encountered his ‘afterimage’, which is essentially a ghost that behaves like the person just before they died. The afterimage of Bosacius was combative and confused, like the others before they passed. Xiao paid his respects and left with the Traveler and their team before they could suffer the same fate.
Bosacius was sealed in the gorge along with a man named Boyang, the only other survivor of their crew. In his story teaser, Bosacius struggles to remember his past and only suddenly remembers his name after passing out from exertion. Both probably died long before the Traveler and Xiao discovered their afterimages.
However, that description really doesn’t do the Archon Quest justice. Go play it.
