There is speculation that Elon Musk was introduced to Australian girlfriend Natasha Bassett in an unconventional way, at least to celebrities.
When you hear about celebrity couples, you’d usually assume they met by being, well, celebrities.
Many famous people walk in the same social circles, go to the same events or even work together, which makes it easy for them to meet other celebrities and form relationships.
What you probably don’t expect is that the richest man in the world was introduced by his mother to his up-and-coming actor girlfriend.
Well, there is speculation that this could be exactly what happened to Elon Musk and his new girlfriend, Australian actress Natasha Bassett.
The couple was recently photographed together on holiday in the French coastal town of Saint-Tropez, with rumors that their relationship first surfaced in February.
Although the 50- and 27-year-old have only been in a romantic relationship for a few months, it seems they’ve known each other for years, with Bassett being close to his mother Maye Musk.
Maye, a 74-year-old model, first met Bassett in 2015 and posted on the actor’s Instagram account after their meeting.
“Nice to meet you both,” she wrote, referring to Basset and her mother.
They appear to have maintained a friendship ever since, with Bassett seeing a lively conversation with Maye at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of the Elvis film last week.
Basset plays Elvis Presley’s first girlfriend Dixie Locke in the film.
It was later confirmed that Bassett had brought Maye to the event as her plus-one.
Their longstanding friendship has sparked speculation that Maye may have been the one who introduced her son to the Australian actor, according to the Daily mail†
That’s what a source close to Musk told Hollywood life that Bassett and the Tesla CEO are “going strong”.
“Elon and Natasha are still going strong and over time Natasha has developed a solid bond with his mother Maye,” the insider claimed.
“Maye is the most important person in Elon’s world and the fact that she adores Natasha means so much to him.”
The source also claimed that although the couple has “been dating for only a few months,” they are “already in a monogamous relationship.”
Recent photos of Musk and Bassett in Saint-Tropez show the couple laughing and chatting as they enjoyed a meal at the Cheval Blanc hotel.
The luxury hotel costs over $1300 per night.
Bassett, who moved to New York from Sydney at 19, has worked in the acting industry for over a decade and previously appeared as Britney Spears in a 2017 biopic.
Bassett discovered her love of acting at a young age and joined the Australian Theater for Young People, where she honed her skills.

Musk welcomed his second child in DecemberExa Dark Sideræl, with ex-girlfriend Grimes via surrogate, although their relationship ended two months earlier.
The two also share a son, X Æ A-Xii i, born in May 2020.
The SpaceX founder also has five other children from his first wife Justine Musk and was previously in a relationship with Amber Heard after her divorce from Johnny Depp in 2016.
Speaking to Vanity Fair earlier this year, Grimes revealed that her relationship with Musk was “fluid.”
“I’d probably call him my boyfriend, but we’re very fluent. We live in separate houses. We are best friends. We see each other all the time. … We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand,” she explained to the publication.
“This is the best it’s ever been,” she said of their happiness. “We just have to be free.”
The 34-year-old even claimed they hoped to expand their family even more, telling Vanity Fair that they “always wanted to have at least three or four” kids together.
