The Queen Makes a Surprising Appearance on the Balcony After the Platinum Jubilee Pageant

The Queen made a surprise appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to round out her Platinum Anniversary Celebrations†

The 96-year-old thrilled royal fans when she stepped out with prince charlesCamilla, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children to mark the end of the festivities on Sunday.

It comes after the monarch, who has struggled with mobility issues in recent months, was forced to withdraw from Friday’s church service at St Paul’s Cathedral and Saturday’s Epsom Derby after suffering “inconvenience”.

Her Majesty wore bright green and carried a walking stick on her arm as she waved to the cheering crowd and watched as they sang the national anthem.

The Queen released a statement shortly after the apparition saying she was “humiliated and deeply moved” by the support she has received.

“When it comes to how to celebrate seventy years as your queen, there is no guidebook to follow. It really is a first. But I am humbled and deeply moved that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my platinum anniversary,” she said.

“While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart was with all of you; and I remain committed to serving you as best I can, supported by my family.

“I have been inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship that have been so evident in the past few days, and I hope this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come.

“Thank you most sincerely for your good wishes and for the part you all played in these happy celebrations.”

The apparition on the balcony immediately followed a huge star-studded procession through the streets of London and a performance by Ed Sheeran outside the palace.

The event kicked off with a military parade featuring thousands of personnel from the British Armed Forces and from across the Commonwealth, including Australia.

The 260-year-old Gold State Coach, who carried the Queen to her coronation in 1953, then drove through the streets.

The monarch appeared as a hologram in the windows of the historic coach.

Thousands of protesters and carnival floats then followed the 3km long election route to celebrate all seven decades of Her Majesty’s reign.

Many British national treasures were involved, including Sir Cliff Richard, Gary Lineker, Dame Shirley Bassey, Bill Bailey, Gok Wan, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss.

Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George – the next three generations of monarchs – all watched from the royal box.

The Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson were also in attendance.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge later tweeted: “Amazing display of street art, theatre, music, sports and more… what a joyous occasion!”

The parade immediately followed the Big Jubilee Lunch, where Brits gathered with their friends, families and neighbors for street parties and backyard meals.

Past events over the anniversary weekend have included Trooping the Colour, the lighting of the Platinum Jubilee Beacon and a huge concert outside the palace.
