Kylie Minogue has admitted there was “quite a bit of pressure” for her to return to Neighbors for the upcoming final.
The long-running Australian soap is due to: comes to an end in August after 37 yearswith Kylie reprising her role of Charlene Robinson on-screen alongside husband Jason Donovan (Scott) after their last appearances over three decades ago.
Talk about Late Night with Seth Meyersthe pop icon opened up about her first landing of her role on the show and its subsequent success.
“I got this role in Neighbors, that was in 1986,” she recalls. “So I was only on the show for two and a half years. But it just exploded – England just went crazy. So it’s always been with me and it’s a big part of how I got into the music industry.
“The show was played twice a day, and people weren’t going to school, they were changing office hours.”
Kylie added: “They are finishing the show and there was quite a bit of pressure for me to go back so I shot my scenes back in Australia.”

The star also discussed the return of fellow ex-star Guy Pearce (Mike Young), revealing that “he just filmed his little return too, so we’re all going to cry”.
A few weeks ago, Kylie talked about her reasons for coming back to Ramsay Streetnarrate glamour: “It’s just thank you [you] to the loyal fans who remember those early years of the show.”

Show boss Jason Herbison previously revealed how easy it was to get Kylie and Jason on boardyielding Inner soap that “needed very little persuasion – they both appreciate the show and the special role it has played in their careers”.
“It’s a nice token of respect for Neighbors, and I was thrilled when they said yes. It didn’t feel right to end the show without them,” he added.
Neighbors airs weekdays at 1:45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5. In Australia, the show airs Monday through Thursday at 6:30pm on 10 Peach and is streamed on 10 Play.
