“I left early to see Chris to make sure he was okay. Being friends with both of them was very difficult,” he said.

“Believe me, as painful as it was for all of us in the room, it was just as painful for Chris who was a pure champion for the way he handled it.

“But I want you to understand that something happened that was extremely painful for… [Will] also.

“That is no excuse. He was all wrong for what he was doing. But something triggered him – that’s so beyond all that he is.”

“I want to apologize to you publicly, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am ashamed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be.

“There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

Smith announced his resignation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in April.

That same month, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences banned the The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star of going to the Oscars for ten years

“The Board of Directors has resolved that, for a period of 10 years, beginning April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith may not attend any Academy events or programs in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,” the Academy said.
