New Videos Provide ‘Evidence’ Kim Kardashian Didn’t ‘Ruin’ Iconic Marilyn Monroe Dress

Behind-the-scenes footage of the iconic 1962 Marilyn Monroe dress has seemingly worthless claims Kim Kardashian “ruined” the dress when she wore it to the 2022 Met Gala.

The $4.8 million dress could not be altered or modified in any shape or form and the reality star, 41, barely squeezed her famous curves into it – even lose seven kilos to fit.

Photos of the stretched zipper and surrounding rhinestones went viral online, and Monroe fans were outraged at the apparent damage. However, it seems that Kardashian has not been responsible for it at all.

The “before” photo of the dress used to compare the fabric after Kardashian wore it was taken in 2016, six years before the Skims founder even touched it.

The photo was also lifted from a video at the auction where Ripley believe it or not bought the dress in 2016 for nearly $5 million.

A TikTok user also defended Kardashian against the online vitriol, pointing to a video the museum posted online of her montage ahead of the Met Gala.

He paused the video on a trailing shot of the dress, which revealed subtle damage to the fabric around the zipper and several rhinestones already.

“The damage was there before she even put on the dress — or at least tried to,” the TikTok user claimed.

“These are images of the dress that… Ripley’s shared when Kim visited and tried it out for the first time.”

“The rhinestones are missing, the clamps are all messed up and this isn’t even closed. So how do we know the dress didn’t look like this [the ‘after’ photo] when clamped or closed?”

Social media users who commented on the TikTok video said it was unfair that Kardashian was blamed for damage she may not have even caused.

“They will find every reason to hate Kim,” said one person. “Damaged naturally over time, not damaged as worn by someone,” added another.

Before and after photos of the dress, which Monroe originally wore in 1962 to sing “Happy Birthday Mr President” to John F Kennedy, appeared online this week.

The Instagram account ‘The Marilyn Monroe Collection’ posted the images, including a side-by-side shot of the dress — before and after Kardashian wore it.

Kardashian told reporters on the red carpet that she’d lost seven pounds in just a few weeks to fit in.

“I tried it and it didn’t suit me,” she said Fashion† “It was such a challenge. It was like a part, I was determined to fit in.”

Once inside the gala, she turned into a replica of the dress, which many critics say should have been done from the start.

Many fashion historians and collectors reacted to the move, expressing concern about the damage Kardashian’s re-dressing of the famous garment may have done.

Marilyn Monroe artifact collector Scott Fortner shared: People that because the dress was designed exclusively for the actress – to the point where she stood naked with it sewn to her body – it can be inferred that some “stress” was being applied to the dress at the time.

“The dress worn by someone else won’t fit exactly,” Fortner said.

“In this case, Kim Kardashian’s measurements are slightly different than Marilyn’s. It makes sense that the fabric and seams were tense.”
