Race 1. (23:30) Queen Mary Stakes 1005m

Sustained speed coming forward through 10 love rulesNow bet: $3.60) for Wesley Ward. I’m not sure what she beat on her debut at Keeneland, and it was over 1100m, but good lord, the arrogance of the win was something else to be in the lead the whole game. Usually they will fly over 900m-1000m with this Wesley Ward boy and will be suspicious in the end when it comes to Ascot. But that 1,100 yards below the belt tells me 1,000 yards will be fine for her here.

Danger

3 dramatizedNow bet: $3.50) looks a smart filly. Debuted on the straight at Newmarket and although she did a little wrong when she was let down, the change in speed was noticeable and she won with class. Runner-up has come in a few times since then, so the form reads well and pulls out so she gets clear air from the get-go.

Wild guess

6 Katey KontenNow bet: $11.00) is 2/2 to start her career. She wandered a bit under pressure at Windsor last start but she still crushed them and ran very fast time for juveniles. She’s getting it a little wrong, but she does have a good talent and a great early toe, so she’s a threat.

Race 2. (00:05) Queen Vase 2847m

going the way of 2 AnchorageNow bet: $7.50) for Aidan O’Brien. He resumed on the Curragh over 2000m and was completely flat feet as the sprint rounded the corner. He could have turned it around, but he ran through the pain barrier and was actually pretty good at the line and through it. He screams from a horse that wants to go further and stable has a fantastic record in the race.

Danger

4 Eldar EldarovNow bet: $3.50) must score high. A lot of quality about his debut victory in Nottingham as a youth. Spelled, resumed at the Synthetic in Newcastle where he found the outer perimeter fence on the straight (A1 ground) and had a fight to put them away but once he did he braked late right away and was impressive. He’s hard to beat.

Wild guess

3 Baltic birdsNow bet: $10.00) is a clear chance of winning. Strong win over Yarmouth last start. He was there to run down but he found himself under pressure and really, the last 100-200m, he was clear which is a good sign. Frankie jumps up and I think the trip won’t be a problem.

Race 3. (00:40) Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Group 1) 2004m

Cracking race with some major winning hopes. Dry ground, Japanese…it’s a good recipe for success, so with that in mind I’m leaning towards 3 ShahryariNow bet: $4.50† He comes here after a win at the Sheema Classic in Meydan where he got an absolute peach from Demuro and got the job done. It seems more effective at 2200m-2400m, but the Japanese are giants in the world races and they rarely run badly, especially on firm decks.

Danger

Winner Cox Plate 4 State of restNow bet: $7.50) commands respect. Strong winner before going to the Tatts Gold Cup in Curragh where he was pushed back a little further than what connections would have liked but found the line strong as he finished third. Some underestimate him, but what becomes clear is that if you go into a fight with him, you come out in second place.

Wild guess

Reject 2 Lord NorthNow bet: $8.00) at own risk. Dominant won two back in the Dubai Duty Free before a fourth in the Tatts Gold Cup, where he was a bit on the ordinary side but far from shame in defeat. Proven great performer on this stage and on the world stage, so he’s a clear opportunity to win.

Race 4. (1:20) Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2) 1609m

I think 5 Mother EarthNow bet: $4.40) can bounce back. I am very forgiving of her last start on the track in the Lockinge behind Baaeed. They drove her too hot and it backfired and ended up on the track. She’s best when ridden with a seat and she gets a setup here where that should be, and at her best she’s the one to beat.

Danger

1 Saffron BeachNow bet: $3.70) commands respect given that she has Group I winning form over some of these, including Mother Earth. Had one run as a final prep, coming in at Group I level in Meydan then a solid fourth. Back to Mares class, class, has the form … she must be in the mix.

Wild guess

2 Sibila SpainNow bet: $7.00) is the unknown. A quality French mare competing from the back of a group will win in Saint Cloud, where she brought forth good through a change of tactics. I think the straight track will suit her and I think you should always respect the French at this carnival.

Race 5. (02:00) Royal Hunt Cup 1609m

As is the case with these races, it is an absolute lottery. I want to be with something that closes, and one that will close at the end 24 Legend Of DubaiNow bet: $5.50† It was an impressive return from him to Newmarket. He kept up the speed before angling for the inside of the pack and he shot under Atzeni. A matter of pressing the button and when he did, he left. Proven at 2400m so if it’s a tough mile tap and be the first up, he showed he can be effective in a sit/sprint.

Danger

6 SymbolizeNow bet: $8.50) brings very strong form in here, with the name Aldaary in it a few times, and I’d say he’s only behind Baaeed as the best horse Shadwell has, so that’s A1 form. Strong second to Thirsk on resumption, track proven here and drawn out, claiming he will only run well.

Wild guess

28 Via SerendipityNow bet: $41.00) will be strong for Charlie Fellowes in the end. Had a dream run passing through at Sandown previous start and what I liked was the ticker it showed. He was there to be beaten late, but he shot up, found and kept his rivals safe on the leash. More difficult here, but he is certainly a winning opportunity.

Race 6. (02:35) Windsor Castle Stakes 1005m

support me

I’m coming 20 WodaNow bet: $15.00) every road. Donnacha O’Brien was training a colt that she gave an absolute beating last time at Navan and what I liked was his speed change when asked to go. It exploded between 400-200m and the race was over. I think his speed will suit this track and however he rides he will be a beauty.

Danger

12 Little Big DipperNow bet: $2.60) is considered by Aidan O’Brien to be one of the better juveniles in his stable, which is reasonable considering the depth he’s been given. This guy was a close second on the debut before making up for it over 1000m in Naas. The question I have with him is that he’s doing it a bit wrong, but clearly has a big engine under the hood and will be strong late.

Wild guess

23 Union CourtNow bet: $26.00) seems to be the clear choice of the fillies in this race. 2/2 to set her career for Ed Walker, she won on her debut at Leicester before repeating the dose in good style at Chepstow. Obviously, this is a more difficult task, but difficult to beat an undefeated filly. First four contenders.

Race 7. (03:10) Bets Kensington Palace 1602m

Get out the dartboard and hope for the best. But I think so 17 HaziyaNow bet: $4.80) is the pony to beat. She was a sharp first-time winner at Leopardstown before moving on to the Curragh when she took a solid third in a good race. Coming all the way in the weights, she’ll be strong late and is an every way bet in the outing.

Danger

13 state opportunityNow bet: $11.00) came back in good order. Resume in all weather at Chelsmford and shot to the line in a very encouraging return. Has run well on Ascot before, she seems to be coming back as good as ever, and with a cold ride from the gate I see her getting into the water late.

Wild guess

10 Don’t Tell ClaireNow bet: $21.00) is a proven performer on the track. Resume across this track/distance where she looked like she needed the run. Presented to threaten, but just felt let the squeeze. Better for the run under the belt, and with a win on the track, she’s a great hope.
