Feature phones are hardly there anymore.

Pro is the one with graphite + copper + VC

This phone doesn’t make a profit on $900. Simple as that. Far too much complex R&D has gone into it on just about everything from display, battery optimization, to ridiculously recommended cameras.

It makes sense that Sony would make a foldable flip phone since Japan still loves them and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series is the S series or their other plates that are tall but can be folded.

Many recent Xperias are practically the same size as my Flip 3 when unfolded. It is high but quite narrow. My Flip 3 just happens to fold. A tall Xperia plate would stick out of my very shallow pockets. A holster case would still be a problem.

Give us an Xperia Z Flip / Razr, Sony. I want a microSD slot and headphone jack on my next flip phone. I’m curious about the Xperia 5 IV, but I really want a beautifully designed Sony flip phone.

They should have used copper double cooling chambers like on the Sony-pro-I. But will they justify spending £90 for it to cost the materials…?

DMX, 6 hours agoSurely you are her pair of 2 or 3 faboys Sony left behind… How ridiculousDon’t blame people for having no idea how the industry works.

No one saw you make a scene for the Vivo X80 series with 8g1 instead of Plus.
For S22, OP10 Pro or Xiaomi 12/12 Pro is also not delayed. Because according to you it could be easy regardless of contracts to have 8g1 chips, deadlines to finish projects and move on to the next one, pay suppliers etc…

Anonymous, 6 hours agoWhy not just make the phone 1mm bigger and NOT compromise on cooling performance? For a phone… LakeDon’t expect the same cooling from Pro (not the pro-i) on 1 and 5.
This will never happen.

DMX, 6 hours agoStop commenting on stupid things, which chips or which chips? very well they could wait!! and la… LakeStop being stupid.

Components are purchased many months before devices are announced. Less than a week before factories start making phones.

When qualcomm announced the chip in early December, brands already had units to use for the first batch. They have had chip samples for testing since July-August.

The qualcomm/tsmc deal wasn’t even official in March. You can’t just return all 8g1 chips to qualcomm or throw them in the trash to use 8+ instead.
Businesses have schedules, any delays affect other projects, the supply chain and even financial difficulties.

I’m not even counting that the new SoC requires the software to be done from scratch.

I can already imagine your scandal when you find out that 5iv uses 8g1 and not the Plus.

I did this on my Galaxy tab s6 tablet, mainly because Samsung doesn’t advertise this feature

Seriously, you want such a phone for a lower price than the iPhone 13 256GB?

What Sony does is give consumers options.
You may want wireless or wired headphones, Sony has you covered

They’re launching it for $900 and a light ad campaign and they’re launching it on time and they’d rub Sony’s hands with a lot of money, but they’d rather sit on the couch or in their comfort zone! What doesn’t convince me is the feverish Soc he has very well they could wait for the Gen 8 1 plus

you have to suffer, 8 hours agotheir excuse of “no more room for 3.5mm jack” tempts people to buy their crap… LakeAnd to think that Sony itself also manufactures some of the best wireless audio products on the market today, if not the best, and even pioneered an industry-standard Bluetooth audio codec that is now built into virtually every smartphone on the market (LDAC). the others really have no right to remove analog audio output on smartphones if Sony has not done so themselves.

The Flip, 8 hours agoCan Sony please make us a foldable flip phone? That is my calling. That’s my signature… LakeIf Sony was interested in flexoled, they wouldn’t have sold everything to LG in 2012.
Remember the OLED screen that can stretch? It was one of the technology sold to LG.

Don’t expect anything like Z Flip from brands that have lower sales volume like Sony, Asus and Htc. Such a device is not financially sound.
Investments would not be covered by sales revenue unless they can sell a significant amount, which only Samsung has achieved so far.

Can Sony please make us a foldable flip phone? That is my calling. That’s my signature form factor. That got me deep into the hobby in 2004. Flip phones. I want to be Captain2Flips as a nod to Captain2Phones, Michael Fisher.

I actually tried to go back to a record 4 days ago. Went back with my iPhone SE (2016) and Essential PH-1. I’m currently typing from the latter and plan to save it after I submit the comment. I just prefer flip phones. Every time I flip it open, it feels like a lightsaber.

My SE1 is a pain to use these days like my LG G5. It’s getting laggy and the touchscreen glitches started to hit on iOS15 where things don’t register. First day, it’s great. Don’t miss the compact form factor. The second day I wanted to throw it against the wall. Apps are not optimized for that small screen. My Essential Phone held up much better.

Why can’t Sony just make us a flip phone like the old Sony Ericsson days? Japan had used them for years and were the pioneers of compact cameras. I don’t want flip phones to come only from Samsung, Motorola or Huawei. I want Sony to make one to offer us a Snapdragon, headphone jack and microSD slot. The Huawei P50 Pocket doesn’t do it for me. Also no Google services. What a hassle.
