Red Dead Redemption 3: Release date speculation and everything we know so far

Red Dead Redemption 3 is the sequel to one of the greatest video games ever made. We’ll give an overview of the expected release date and everything else we know so far.

Red Dead Redemption 3 has big shoes to fill, as they say. As the successor to one of the most acclaimed video games in history, it’s no exaggeration to say that Rockstar Games has their work cut out for it. Fortunately for them, they are not under any particular time pressure.

There is currently no official Red Dead Redemption 3 release date, which should surprise no one. Rockstar Games are known for taking their time when it comes to their flagship titles; you could say that their past successes have afforded them this luxury more than any other game studio.

But just because we don’t have an official statement doesn’t mean we have nothing to do. There’s an old saying that where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and where there’s fire, there’s probably a cowboy with some great loot to steal. By reading between the lines you can actually deduce quite a bit.

With that in mind, we thought we’d set our sharp eyes on the horizon and see what we can discern regarding Red Dead Redemption 3† And while we’ll do our best to be factual, it’s worth reiterating that most of this article is speculative rather than definitive.

Red Dead Redemption 3 Publication date

The first Western-themed game in the franchise was released in May 2010, featuring: Red Dead Redemption 2 arrives in 2018. This means, if my work is correct, it took Rockstar Games over 8 years to deliver the expected follow-up.

Between these two games, of course, Grand Theft Auto 5 which came out in 2013. Based on past behavior, it seems that Rockstar Games generally delivers an AAA title every 3-4 years; meaning Red Dead Redemption 3 or GTA 6 expected as early as 2023…except, oh damn. GTA Online

While Rockstar once focused solely on extended single-player games, they’ve since dipped their toes into the cash pool of online multiplayer games featuring GTA Online† And they seem to like it. They seem to like it too remaster their older games

So it’s only natural that new Rockstar AAA titles will be further apart than before. And then there’s the small matter of: GTA6

Basically I wouldn’t expect Red Dead Redemption 3 before 2026 if GTA 6 releases in 2023, and later if that game experiences any kind of delay.

Considering what Rockstar did with Red Dead Redemption 2, it wouldn’t be surprising if they try to relate to the characters and plot of the previous games. While we know the fate of John Marston and Arthur Morgan, there is one main character with his future ahead of him: Jack Marston.

This would be an exciting return to the world we’ve become attached to as well, while giving the developers the chance to delve into a historical period of the Wild West that they have yet to explore.

Another option is to go with a brand new Red Dead Redemption 3 character, simply laced with established characters from the earlier episodes. If the team decides to go down this road, it would be really great to see a female character in the lead.

Stories like real grit show that women can be fantastic protagonists in westerns, and it would give Rockstar a chance to silence the critics accused them of chauvinism in the past (they’ve never had a playable female character in their games).

Some speculative pieces have been written suggesting: Red Dead Redemption 3 could be established at least partially in Europe. This would allow Rockstar to investigate the situation of immigrants in the same way as in Grand Theft Auto 4

This idea has obvious merit from a narrative perspective, but the workload involved in creating part of Europe and then completely moving the game to the US can be characterized as self-defeating.

It’s also worth considering whether fans of the series, rightly or wrongly, want to star as Europeans in a series that, until now, has been decidedly American. Personally, I’d love to see it, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.

Red Dead Redemption 3 will likely take place in a fictional US version, just like the first two games. This creative decision allowed the developers to pick out their favorite elements of the myths of the Wild West, without being tied to history or a specific geographic location. And my money is on them going this way again.
