Watch ‘Brave’ Parents Discover Their 5-Year-Old Daughter Has a Brain Tumor

children’s hospital is a brand new series on Channel 9 and 9Nowwho examines the incredible work taking place at two of Western Australia’s busiest hospitals.

During episode one, viewers were introduced to five-year-old Harper, who entered Perth Children’s Hospital after experiencing intermittent headaches and vomiting.

Upon arrival, her parents Meagan and Dominic were told every parent’s worst nightmare: that their daughter was suffering from a golf ball-sized brain tumor, and the best way to remove it was surgery.

During the episode, Dominic recalled how his wife had picked up Harper from school after she felt unwell.

“When she got there, she couldn’t communicate well and her eyes were in the back of her mind,” he said. “That’s pretty scary for a parent to hear on the phone.”

Meagan then took the little girl straight to the hospital. She said, “They sent her off for a CT scan, I was with her. You see the doctors going on and you know something’s going on… The doctors followed us back and they closed the curtain.

“They told us she had a significant mass in her brain. That’s all I heard and then it went off.”

The doctors later told Meagan and Dominic that the tumor had probably been in Harper’s brain for months.

They said most of it would have to be surgically removed before the rest of the cells could be removed.

It would be a very serious operation that always carries great risks, the doctor told them.

“It’s pretty hard to tell a five-year-old what’s going on,” Dominic added. “She understands she has a bump on her head and we told her we don’t want to hide it from her.

“But I think you have to draw a line not to scare them. Probably the fucking week of my life, to be honest.’

children’s hospital executive producer Julia Redwood recently spoke to 9Entertainment about the family, saying their powerful and moving story was an “amazing” thing to show viewers.

“The ghost of this little girl and her parents, who are just strong for her but clearly in so much pain inside… they worry so much.” she said.

“But for her, they remain strong. I love that, and that’s what so many parents have to do.

“To see that on film, to see that demonstrated in a TV series is quite remarkable. They are incredibly brave people to come on TV for us and share their stories.”

After a five-hour surgery with Dr. Sharon, Meagan and Dominic were delighted to find that the procedure was a success.

The episode ended by saying that little Harper is now responding well to further treatment from the PCH oncology team.

“I don’t think we can ever say how grateful we are,” Meagan told Dr. Sharon.
