The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut will be the fastest car ever made

There’s a new king of the Australian roads, and he arrives with a ghost badge on his motorcycle. That’s right, the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut has arrived Down Under for the first time and represents one of the most advanced hypercars to ever land on the Australian coast.

If you’ve never heard of Koenigsegg, you’re not alone. The humble high-performance carmaker was founded in 1994 in Angelngelholm, Sweden and has been making some of the world’s fastest and most powerful vehicles ever since. This year, Koenigsegg will make its first continuous entry into the Australian market thanks to a partnership with Melbourne-based exotic car dealer Sullivan Kerr.

Koenigsegg’s latest effort is the Jesko, of which there are two versions in the Attack and the Absolut, with the Attack built for more track-oriented performance (with a huge wing), while the Absolut is built for straight-line speed (without a wing). Only 125 units of the Jesko will be made, including both the Attack and Absolut variants, with a total of three cars allocated to Australia.

We recently had the chance to see the new Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut at the Sullivan Kerr showrooms in Sandringham, and it’s pretty safe to say we were blown away by it. The immediate impression it makes is one of uncompromising power and aerodynamic refinement, with a carbon front lip that could be used to eat your dinner and a pair of fins over the engine that remind you of an aggressive tropical fish.

Simply put, it just looks fast† From the huge front and side vents to the super light carbon fiber wheels, everything has been considered and designed for maximum smoothness through the air. And that’s all before you look at what Koenigsegg has been dreaming about under the hood.

The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut is powered by a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 955 kW/1500 Nm when filled with E85, although it also has a flex-fuel option. All this power is then channeled to the 21-inch rear wheels via the Koenigsegg 9-speed Light Speed Transmission and a limited-slip differential, resulting in a terrifying amount of power.

Featuring a double wishbone suspension for smooth rolling, the Absolut weighs less than 1400kg, thanks in part to the aforementioned motor designed to tip the scales at just 189kg. This weight is also made possible by the car’s bodywork in carbon fiber monocoque and aluminum honeycomb, as well as integrated fuel tanks.

As you would expect, the car’s interior has received just as much attention, with a custom leather or Alcantara interior, with an infotainment system that offers everything you need and more. Think of Apple CarPlay, a proximity security system so that you don’t open your door against the wall, a ‘bird’s eye’ parking aid system and climate control.

We’ve already mentioned that the Jesko Absolut is fast, but how fast does it go exactly? Now the car has not yet been officially tested or certified for its top speed, but it is clear that under the right conditions it can reach speeds of 531 km/h (330 mph). This makes it the fastest car ever built, which is an extremely impressive achievement for Koenigsegg.

The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut is currently available for €3.1 million ($AU 4.62 million) excluding taxes, including the luxury car tax, GST, import tax and stamp duty. Depending on the specs and options you’re looking for (a full-visible carbon fiber exterior costs an additional AU$1.1 million), the Absolut can cost as much as AU$12 million.

There are three examples of the Koenigsegg Jesko assigned to Australia, and they are currently being discussed. However, the good folks at Sullivan Kerr know how to move mountains when needed, so if you’re seriously interested, get in touch with them sooner or later.
