Rd 16 Teams: ‘Inside mail’ Pies star will return after controversial Bali trip; Dog Injuries Get Worse With Gun Defense Out

Jordan De Goey will return to Collingwood against the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday night, according to ex-Magpies president Eddie McGuire.

It is De Goey’s first game back since his controversial mid-season trip to Bali, which resulted in the 26-year-old being given a $25,000 suspended fine and taking personal leave from Collingwood to miss his win over GWS last weekend.

McGuire told Channel 9’s Footy classified on Wednesday night, De Goey, who was back in training this week, would get through a final session this week, then make the trip north to face the Suns at Metricon Stadium, where the Pies will play their sixth straight game will try to win.

“Collingwood’s email is that Jordan De Goey is playing this weekend. He just has to get through training for the next few days,” McGuire told 9News Melbourne.

“The inside mail is that Jordy will be playing for the Pies against the Gold Coast next weekend.”

The Western Bulldogs have suffered another costly injury with sweet kicking star defender Caleb Daniel missing out on Thursday night’s crunch clash with Brisbane.

Daniel (knee cartilage damage) and Ed Richards (concussion) both drop out of Luke Beveridge’s side due to injury, although the 2021 big finalists will get Lachie Hunter back for his first game since round 5, after he said his personal retirement from the club.

As announced earlier this week, Dom Bedendo will make his AFL debut.

Tim English failed to overcome a delayed concussion that left him missing a second consecutive game, while No. 2 draft pick Sam Darcy, son of big club Luke, has been cited as an emergency as he gets closer to an AFL debut.

In Brisbane, Zac Bailey is returning from Covid isolation and captain Dayne Zorko has recovered from a hamstring problem.

Jarryd Lyons is also strengthening midfield and keeping his spot despite being eliminated last week over rib concerns against Melbourne. Mitch Robinson, Tom Berry and Devon Robertson are all left out.

“We will make some changes, last week’s performance was not good for us,” said coach Chris Fagan during the week.

“The challenge for us is to come back from that kind of performance.”

The other teams of this round will be announced on Thursday evening.
