A tip: when you are playing Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, stick to the “classic” mode no matter what. Come on. Despite its musou attributes, Three Hope is still a fire emblem game, with all bets on life or death and high-end strategy that would mean.

- Classic: If a party member runs out of HP, they are dead for good. Sorry!
The actual branch of your choice will take effect during the fourth chapter of the game, and you can switch from classic to casual in-game. game settings menu. Fair warning though: you can’t switch from casual to classic. (During the first three chapters, fallen units come back to life, even in classic mode.) So there’s a bit of an incentive to start a new game in classic mode, see if it works for you or not, before you decide which mode you want to continue playing at the end of the third chapter. If you only want to tap YYYX your way through some frenetic battles, casual mode will serve you well. But if you want to replicate the nail-biting torment of traditional? fire emblem stages, classic is the right choice.
Three Hope is ostensibly set in an alternate timeline of Three houses, but with most of the same characters. Early on, you’ll ally with one of three factions: the Blue Lions, led by the stoic Dmitri; the Black Eagles, led by Edelgard, desperate to make fascism fashionable; and the Golden Deer, which fronts the swoon-worthy Claude. And like Three housesyou soon get to know the people who make up these factions and care deeply about them.
In a tactical game, it’s one thing to take a stealthy, nameless ‘robber’ unit into battle. It’s quite another to send Hilda, your trusty, pink-haired, axe-wielding warrior into the same battle. You know she likes singing and dancing and colorful flowers. You know she’s lazy as hell, hates responsibility and will pass the blame at every opportunity. You know she has a close relationship with Raphael, the hungriest member of the Golden Deer, and a close confidant of Claude. If she dies, it will hurt. The same can be said of any member of the Golden Deer whose name is not Lorenz.
In classic mode, this dedication is reflected in combat. You can press the plus button at any time to pause the game and open a grid-based map of the battlefield, then instruct group members to attack enemies that give them an inherent advantage. †Three Hope uses fire emblemis classic”weapon triangle.”) You can also use the D-pad to switch between characters, giving you more control over a particular group member who is in a bind. When fights get tense, when your party members start to lose health, you start to make these moves more intentional, because every fuck-up means you lose a favorite character – for good. That feeling is not possible when you play in casual mode.
